Myspace India

Today, News Corporation has officially launched its India centric MySpace.com, one of the biggest social networking portal in the world. The India launch which is part of MySpace expansion in Asia region is just after the Korea launch. India is third Asian center of all three Asian MySpace hub after Japan and Korea.

MySpace, the social networking initiative of News Corp, officially launched its localised Indian services on Thursday, in Mumbai. This site was set active in January, early this year. Moreover, it claims around half a million users. This site offers innovative content such as local music and television programs. Now, this development has an aspect related to internet advertising.

The VP of SaReGaMa India, Atul Churamanin said in an interview, “We have entered into a promotion tie-up with MySpace India to first focus on introducing 30 emerging artists as part of our upcoming city-specific ‘Underground’ compilation albums.”These ‘Underground’ compilations are being planned for a release by the end of May. In addition, this is a first online promotion initiative for artists by SaReGaMa.

Churamani added, “MySpace India will feature artist pages that will include videos and tracks, and offer a platform between artists and fans.” Few weeks before job site career guidance tied up with Facebook for targeting users as potential recruits.

Now, MySpace has also localised its site for South Korea. It means that internet advertising is becoming popular with social networking and advertising network is strengthening. India has its own social networking players like Bigadda and Fropper, which have a strong web presence. Associating with social media for internet advertising would surely mean efficient user data targeting and extensive reach. Web is still to witness the power of social networking.
